England have announced the appointment of both Cole and Lescott to Carsley's coaching staff ahead of his first games in interim charge, against the Republic of Ireland and Finland in the Nations League in September. Cole will work as Carsley's assistant, having worked with him for the England U21s, and Lescott has also stepped up from the youth team.

Cole won over 100 caps for England throughout a storied career and helped Carsley and the Young Lions to glory at the European Championship in 2023. Cole also works with Birmingham City as a first-team coach. Lescott, by comparison, played with Carsley for Everton in their playing days, and won 26 caps for his country.

While Cole and Lescott have joined Carsley's coaching team, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has left, having been drafted in by Gareth Southgate in 2023 and helping the Three Lions to the final of Euro 2024.
